We’ve got a lot planned – case studies, group work, skills practice, some drinks, and a game. So we’ll take stock for 10mins so we can set the scene for the day and define a plan and some aims to ensure we get the most out of the hours ahead.

To start the afternoon, and to warm up the brains and mouths, we’ll be setting a couple of questions to each table to discuss and share views on at the top of the afternoon. They’ll be in relation to the theme of the day, and the aim is that it acts as an ice breaker and conversation starter to get us in the correct frame of mind for the topic at hand.

EPP – How you Lead, and Influence Others

Discover more >

The aim of this Performance in Practice, in partnership with Elite Performance Partners (EPP), is to explore the latest innovation and practical skills needed as performance environments evolve, through partner and performance expert stimulus, breakout discussion and practical skills development.

In this section of the afternoon, EPP will examine and share world class insights on thinking around how you lead, the relationships you build, and the way you interact with and influence others.  This element of leadership is often referred to as followership – how you bring others on a journey with you.

Here are a few areas that EPP will touch upon in this section:

  • How to ensure you’re not only thinking about how to achieve strategically in a new role, but also how to focus on how you will show up as a leader, how you will build relationships, and who you are looking to influence.
  • A deep dive into their model that not only helps people land well in their roles, or develop so they are ready to continue to progress. This is done through an understanding of strengths and areas for development – where leaders currently over index, and where leaders might need to do more work or bring in others with complementary skills
  • Understanding the skills often referred to as ‘soft’ – how you lead, how you form relationships, and your character – aka, how you show up.  We prefer to call them human skills because they are actually the hardest to build, but can be developed with work
  • A focus on how you build relationships, the leadership style you adopt, the way you form relationships, and communicate with different people

In the second part of the afternoon, we’ll be combining coaching and case-studies from inside and outside the world of sport, to help enable participants to make a sustained shift in their impact and effectiveness as leaders.

The particular topic we’ll be focusing on is Relationship Building. We’ll take a deep dive into the skills you need to ensure you are creating a successful transition, whether that be a change within your role now, a change to a new role, or even a move to a new organisation. If you’re in a period of change, fear not, these skills are relevant and powerful at any stage of your career, and we’ll be exploring topics such as trust, building rapport, creating the right impression, improving our listening skills, and how to communicate with purpose.
